Super Buzzkiller Prof Philip Nash joins us to examine the many myths surrounding Adolf Hitler’s rise from Chancellor to the outbreak of World War II. These include: how Nazi Germany functioned; the myth of purely tyrannical dictatorship; and the myth of an efficient, orderly dictatorship. We also explore Hitler’s genuine popularity, and explain the successes of Hitler’s diplomacy and expansionism. It’s very deep and complicated, Buzzkillers!

As it happens I just finished reading a book of William Shirer's broadcasts from Berlin, who worked for CBS Radio at the time. According to the broadcasts the bomb was planted in a Munich beerhouse and set to explode on November 9, 1939. Hitler was at the beerhouse to celebrate the 1923 Munich beerhouse Putsch. The bomb had a 144 hour timer on it. Of course Shirer was heavily censored and he had to be very careful what he broadcast, as often the censors would be standing right next to him as he broadcast.
